Jute

A bundle of natural jute fibre strands, used for sealing threaded pipe joints.

Jute is a natural plant-fibre sealing material wound into the male threads of a pipe connection, traditionally in combination with a jointing paste or compound. As the joint is made up, the fibres pack and swell on contact with moisture to fill the gaps between mating threads, forming a tight, leak-resistant seal on water and gas pipework.

Industrial Applications: Plumbing, Heating, Gas, Water Supply

Highlights: Natural, Low-Cost Material, Swells on Contact with Water to Tighten the Seal, Well Suited to Larger-Diameter Metal Threads

Considerations: Normally Used with a Jointing Paste, Application Is Skill-Dependent, For Metal Threads Only, Gas Use Subject to Local Code Approval
