KNPC Clean Fuels Project, Mina Abdullah Package 2 (MAB2)

The Clean Fuels Project upgraded and integrated the Mina Al Ahmadi and Mina Abdullah refineries in southern Kuwait for Kuwait National Petroleum Company. The MAB2 package, built by the Fluor, Daewoo and Hyundai joint venture, included a hydrogen plant and sulphur block. The whole programme cost about KD4,680 million, roughly 16 billion dollars, and lifted combined refining capacity from 736,000 to 800,000 barrels a day.

Sulphur Handling Facilities Project, Mina Al Ahmadi Refinery

This project repaired and expanded the sulphur processing and ship loading facilities at KNPC's Mina Al Ahmadi refinery, about 45 km south of Kuwait City. South Korea's Daelim Industrial built the works under a contract worth about 516 million dollars. The upgrade handled sulphur from all three KNPC refineries and helped raise Kuwait's annual sulphur output.

KOC Office Complex, Ahmadi

Kuwait Oil Company built a new head office complex in Ahmadi, the company town it created for oil workers south of Kuwait City. The complex has six main office buildings plus support buildings and substations. It was designed to bring KOC's staff together on one campus with a total built-up area of about 80,000 square metres.

Umm Al Hayman Wastewater Treatment Plant and Network

This is one of the world's largest wastewater projects, built south of Kuwait City under a public-private partnership. The plant will treat 500,000 cubic metres of wastewater a day, rising to 700,000 in future, securing reusable water for about 1,725,000 people. It includes a roughly 450 km network of pipes and pumping stations, with a total contract value just under 1.6 billion euros.

Kuwait International Airport Terminal 2

Terminal 2 is a major new terminal at Kuwait International Airport, designed by Foster + Partners and built by Turkey's Limak. The 700,000 square metre terminal is being built for the Directorate General of Civil Aviation at a cost of about 4.34 billion dollars, part of a wider airport modernisation programme. It is designed to handle up to 25 million passengers a year.

Small Boat Harbour Project (KOC)

Kuwait Oil Company built and upgraded small boat harbours near its Mina Al Ahmadi facilities south of Kuwait City. Turkey's STFA carried out the marine works with local partner Essa Hussain Al Yousifi. The project included a new harbour at North Pier and refurbishment at South Pier, with a value of about 137 million Kuwaiti dinars.

New Jahra Hospital (Jahra Medical City)

New Jahra Hospital, also called Jahra Medical City, is a large public hospital about 30 km west of Kuwait City, built by the Amiri Diwan. Mohammed Abdulmohsin Al Kharafi and Sons was the main contractor. The complex has about 1,234 to 1,903 beds across several buildings and cost about 365 million Kuwaiti dinars, roughly 1.18 billion dollars, making it one of the largest hospitals in the region.

Al Amiri Hospital Expansion

This project added a new hospital building to the existing Al Amiri Hospital complex in the Sharq area of Kuwait City, for the Ministry of Health. It was built by a joint venture of Associated Construction Company, Al Essa and Italy's Impresa Pizzarotti. The 416-bed building has a gross floor area of about 101,000 square metres and opened in late 2018.

New Dhaman Hospitals at Ahmadi and Jahra (Health Assurance Hospitals Company)

HAHC stands for Health Assurance Hospitals Company, known as Dhaman. Dhaman built two new hospitals, one in Ahmadi and one in Jahra, under a public-private partnership to serve Kuwait's expatriate residents. China's MCC was the contractor. The two hospitals, with a combined capacity of about 660 beds, were built under a contract worth about 531 million dollars.

Sabah Al Salem University City, Shadadiya (Kuwait University)

Sabah Al Salem University City is Kuwait University's new campus at Shadadiya, south of Kuwait City. It brings the university's colleges together on a 6 million square metre site, including the colleges of business, science, arts, education and others. The multi-billion dollar project was officially inaugurated in May 2024.

PAAET Shuwaikh New Campus

The Public Authority for Applied Education and Training built new campus facilities at its Shuwaikh site in Kuwait City. The programme included new colleges, institutes, laboratories and workshops for students. Gulf Construction and Trading with British Link Kuwait were involved in the works.

Gulf University for Science and Technology (GUST), Mishref

The Gulf University Project is Gulf University for Science and Technology, Kuwait's first private university, at West Mishref. Burhan International Construction built the multi-storey campus complex. Phase 1 opened in 2007 on a site of about 150,000 square metres.

Al Shaheed Park

Al Shaheed Park is the largest urban park in Kuwait, built for the Amiri Diwan in Kuwait City. Kharafi National built the first phases. The park covers about 20 hectares and includes two museums, botanical gardens, a lake and one of the world's largest over-structure green roofs.

Al Salam Palace Museum

Al Salam Palace is a 1960s palace in Shuwaikh, Kuwait City, that was damaged in the 1990 Iraqi invasion and restored as a museum for the Amiri Diwan. The museum tells Kuwait's history through its rulers and reopened in 2019.

New Palace of Justice

The New Palace of Justice is a large new courts complex in Kuwait City, developed by the Amiri Diwan and designed by Pace. It is one of the largest judicial buildings in the Middle East, with about 141 courtrooms over 25 floors and a total area of about 356,000 square metres. Its first phase opened in 2024.

National Bank of Kuwait (NBK) New Headquarters

The NBK headquarters is a 300 metre skyscraper in the Sharq financial district of Kuwait City, designed by Foster + Partners and built by Ahmadiah Contracting. Officially a supertall skyscraper, it has 63 floors and a total floor area of about 127,000 square metres. The tower was completed in July 2022.

Boubyan Bank Headquarters

Boubyan Bank built a new 40-storey headquarters tower in central Kuwait City, designed by SSH and Perkins Eastman. First United General Trading and Contracting was involved in the works. The tower sits on a plot of about 3,960 square metres with a built-up area of about 75,000 square metres.

Burj Alshaya (Four Seasons Hotel Kuwait)

Burj Alshaya is a twin-tower complex on Soor Street in central Kuwait City, developed by the Alshaya Group. It houses the Alshaya corporate headquarters and the Four Seasons Hotel Kuwait, which opened in 2017. Al Bahar Construction with Al Injaz Trading were involved in the works.

360 Mall

360 Mall is a major shopping and leisure destination on the Sixth Ring Road in South Surra, developed by Tamdeen Group. The original mall opened in 2009, and a large expansion added a hotel and a tennis complex. Ahmadiah Contracting and Kharafi National carried out construction work.

Al Khiran Outlet Mall

Al Khiran Mall is Kuwait's first hybrid outlet mall, built by Tamdeen Group in Sabah Al Ahmad Sea City in the south of Kuwait. Gulf Engineering and Alghanim International carried out construction. The development spreads across 350,000 square metres and includes more than 300 shops and Kuwait's largest marina.

Kuwait International Tennis Complex

The Sheikh Jaber Al Abdullah Al Jaber Al Sabah International Tennis Complex is part of the 360 Mall expansion in South Surra, developed by Tamdeen Group. The complex has about 18 courts and seating for around 7,600 spectators across its main arenas, and hosts the first Rafa Nadal Academy outside Europe.
